Marshall Municipal Utilities and the City of Marshall have signed an agreement allowing the construction of a natural gas power plant in the city limits.
The agreement, signed at a special city council meeting Wednesday night, will allow MMU to build the facility in two phases. MMU General Manager Jeff Bergstrom says the plant will produce energy to cover gaps in renewable energy production.
Bergstrom says MMU has worked with the Missouri Public Utilities Alliance since May to plan the facility at the site of a city storage lot. He says when completed, the plant will have the capacity to generate nearly 130 megawatts.
Bergstrom says design work continues but plans are to break ground on Phase One in March, with both phases completed by 2028.
